"“Reaper’s Lament”
Photoshop "I was really inspired by the artist’s general subjects of dark fantasy and the way her pieces are dominated by a specific color. A lineless, painting-like style is also something I’ve always wanted to be able to create in my works so I decided I would like to learn how to create this digital style in photoshop. I discovered the main tool to use for this was the mixer brush so I looked up tutorials for this tool, and ended up downloading new photoshop brushes in order to get the exact paint look I was going for. I decided to feature one of my own characters in this piece to create a scene that gives a “dark” feeling. Since this character is supposed to be an “angel of death” I figured he would be the perfect subject for this and the end product is composed similar to a renaissance painting. In this picture, “death” is depicted kneeling on a broken battlefield and looking solemnly at his surroundings, reaching out to something the viewer cannot see. Overall, I feel like creating this piece helped me realize that my art was meant to be in this style and that I really enjoy treating digital work like a painting on canvas and blending colors to create realistic-like shadows and lighting. One thing I followed on the tutorials that I learned does not work for me is changing the outline to a reddish color, which I now realize was not a good choice for a character whose color palette is mainly darker colors since this underline is still partially visible on the finished piece. |
"Underwater transformation"
PhotoShop "I consider my art to be a visual escape from reality. Often depicting themes of nature as well as fantasy theme to it. A lot of my inspiration is from aspects of history as well as my interest in magical themes. I tried to make it seem that this piece was from another world. I used my time working on this piece to improve my skills at blending images which is something I do a lot. My original idea for the piece was to make a mermaid like creatures but as I worked on it it evolved into more of a fish human hybrid." |
"S-cream-er"
Illustrator & PhotoShop "The title of my piece is S-cream-er. It isn’t really a commentary on society or today’s culture it’s just an idea I came up with that I wanted to fledge out into a piece of art. I definitely took inspiration from Rick and Morty especially with the eyes and mouth of the actual ice cream. The art piece looks pretty horrific with the ice cream in the process of melting, which is contrasted with the cartoony Foster’s Freeze logo on the label. I took advantage of gradients to give each object a three dimensional look, and I think it turned out really nicely. All in all I think the whole project ended up great, and it looks just how I imagined it." |
